Staffhouse Inter-regional Meeting on Migration & Women Workers

Manny Gomez, Managing Director of Staffhouse International Resources Corporation (Philippines), participated as a resource speaker in a tripartite inter-regional consultation entitled “Labour Mobility between Asia and the Arab States: Sharing of experiences and progress under the Bali Declaration with a specific focus on women migrant workers”, held on 3-4 December 2019 at the Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand.

The consultation was organized with support from various projects, including the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative’s Safe and Fair Programme, the EU-funded REFRAME Project, and the Swiss Development and Cooperation (SDC)-funded FAIRWAY Project.

During the event, Gomez highlighted that the recruitment agencies play a big role in worker protection and provision of support services to all migrant workers, regardless of gender. Recruitment agencies typically act as the gateway that enables both employer and candidate access to each other and to the opportunities that exist for labor migration.

In closing, Gomez reiterated that recruitment agencies should have the moral obligation to ensure that the agency should match the candidates’ qualifications with the right jobs and employers. And that everyone is equally circumspect on the way they conduct business that it is done only in an ethical and fair manner.
